What do you hope readers will take away from your book? Are there specific themes or messages that are close to your heart?
I always have a Bible verse (or 3) that influence each story. I think it’s so important to see how God is a part of every moment in our lives. Even the times when we feel most alone. He will never turn His back on us. So I hope that everyone who picks up one of my books is reminded that no matter how far gone you are, it only takes turning to Jesus to find your way back.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors who dream of publishing their own stories one day?
IGNORE THE NOISE. Learn from others, but do not take what they say as the ‘special sauce that will fix it all’. Do your own research and test your own things. The best thing I ever did for my career was fail because it taught me to get back up and try something else.
What’s a common misconception people have about being an author, and how does the reality differ?
That we have our stuff together and know the beginning, middle, and end before the first words are on the page. A lot of the time I have literally no idea what’s going to happen or who the big bad is when I start. It’s a surprise to me, too!
