Spotlight on Sara Blackard

Today I’d like to introduce you to Sara Blackard.

Sara Blackard is an award-winning romance novelist who weaves pulse-pounding action, heartfelt emotion, and swoon-worthy romance into every story.

Her tales of protective heroes, strong heroines, and thrilling suspense will keep you turning pages late into the night. When she’s not crafting wild adventures and toe-curling romances filled with danger and intrigue, she’s homeschooling her four daring boys and one fearless princess, keeping their off-grid house running (don’t ask if it’s clean), or soaking in the rugged beauty of the Alaskan lifestyle she shares with her Hunky Hubster.

What inspired you to write your latest book, and how did the story idea first come to you?

A Rebel’s Shot was inspired by my life here in Alaska’s Interior. The opening scene and the ice cave are especially crafted from real-life experiences. It’s not easy living here, and I wanted to show true Alaska.

If your book were a song or playlist, what kind of music would capture its essence?

The soundtrack to Tom Clancy’s The Division video game soundtrack would capture A Rebel’s Shot’s essence. It starts out with you gripping your seat and doesn’t stop.

Can you share a bit about your writing process? Do you have any rituals or routines that help you stay creative?

Something that I started last year that has been really helpful in my writing process is my friend and author Jodi Basye and I hop onto Zoom every morning at 6:30. We talk for a couple of minutes, mute ourselves, then write. It’s like having an accountability partner right there with me to get my words in. My husband gives me a hard time about it, but it’s a weird habit I know look forward to every morning.

A rebel's shot by Sara Blackard.

An unwanted legacy. An easy job turned deadly. And a message: Don’t trust anyone.

When Merritt Harland’s father unexpectedly died and she was thrust into the CEO position of her family’s multi-billion dollar mining empire she walked away from years ago, she thought life couldn’t get any worse. But being forced to the far reaches of Alaska and surrounded by her conniving stepfamily, loneliness and the desperation to uncover the secret of her father’s death might just consume her.

Tiikâan Rebel took the job of flying the head of Harland Global Resources for the easy money the months-long contract would give him. Money he desperately needs to keep his hunting and guiding business from going belly up and confirming his status as screw-up in his family of extraordinaires. He can endure the boredom of being nothing more than an air taxi if it means his dream will survive another Alaskan winter.

But when the frosty woman he’s flying proves to be an intriguing puzzle, his curiosity gets him deeper in trouble than he imagines. His determination to live up to his family name and help Merritt expose the treachery threatening her might be more than he can handle.

And the Land of the Midnight Sun doesn’t care who lives or dies.
