Sara Davison has been seriously writing suspense and romantic suspense novels for fifteen years. Her first book, The Watcher, won the Word Alive Press publishing contest out of more than two hundred entries across North America and was published in 2011. Since then, she has put out eight traditionally published books with WhiteFire Press and Mountain Brook Ink. In 2020, Sara released her first independently published novel, Lost Down Deep, which won the Carol Award for romantic suspense in 2021. Driven, the third novel in her Night Guardians Series with Mountain Brook Ink, won the Carol for romantic suspense in 2022. Almost all her novels have been finalists for major awards including a Selah (Lost Down Deep placed second in 2021 and Every Flower of the Field placed third in 2024), and Daphne du Maurier. Besides the two Carol Awards, Sara has won a Cascade Award and two Word Awards (the top literary awards in Canada for writers who are Christian) as well as the Holt Medallion Award in 2024 for The Color of Sky and Stone.
While often pushing boundaries and tackling edgy, gritty topics, she is committed to publishing books that are excellent and that contain strong but organically written Christian messages, something reviewers often comment on. Readers also appreciate the humor woven throughout, which provides relief from the intensity of the stories. Reviewers commonly mention that, while she doesn’t shy away from edgy, gritty topics, she handles difficult, complex issues with skill, sensitivity, and grace. Building that kind of trust with her readers is one of Sara’s top priorities. She prays over every story, that it will be a blessing to readers and that God will use it to have an impact on hearts and lives.

What inspired you to write your latest book?
I have contributed novellas to twelve different anthologies with The Mosaic Collection (a group of 12 indie authors). Each story is connected to one of my series, and it’s been so much fun to be able to give these secondary characters their own stories and voices. Although the stories can stand on their own, the ‘recommended order of reading’ guide in the front will take readers back and forth between the stories and the novels to give them the “full Rose Tattoo Trilogy experience.”
I read the first book in the series. Here is my review of that fantastic book:
The engaging novel, Lost Down Deep was my first foray into this author’s work, but it certainly won’t be the last.
This suspenseful story is filled with secrets and intrigue, keeping readers captivated and glued to the pages. One of the unique aspects of the book is the occasional use of Spanish, which adds a multicultural touch to the narrative. While some of it may require translation, it is not an overwhelming amount, and most can be understood through context. This minor language element enhances the reading experience without detracting from the book’s overall accessibility.
This one had an exciting plot and skillful storytelling, so I’m looking forward to reading Written in Ink as well as discovering more of Sara Davison’s captivating stories in the future.
While you’re waiting for final book in the trilogy to release, you can check out the companion story collection This Little Nowhere, Nothing Town which releases on April 2nd and is currently available to preorder. The five novellas in this collection tell the stories of the minor characters in the Rose Tattoo Trilogy, all set in the same small town of Elora.
Sharp Like Glass (book three) is scheduled for release in October of 2025.
